Jayanti Addleman, director of Hayward's library services, will be the featured presenter at the Aug. 17 lunch meeting of the Hayward Rotary Club at 1074 B St. A $100,000 project grant by Hayward Rotary funded the children's section of the new downtown library. She has led the Hayward Public Library since her selection in January 2019. She served as interim city manager during the city council's search for a new chief executive in July 2025.
As director of library services she oversaw the opening of the 58,000-square-foot downtown public library in 2019. Total cost for the project — including demolition, construction, and restoration of Heritage Plaza across the street — was $63 million, funded by the taxpayer approved Measure C sales tax measure in 2014.
