Dr. Wayne is our special keynote speaker on Monday, Nov 4. Matt Wayne is the Superintendent of the Hayward Unified School District.  Dr. Wayne strives daily to support schools in creating challenging, thoughtful and joyous learning experiences for children.  This has been his focus throughout his career in education—as a middle school language arts teacher in New York; as vice-principal, then principal of a large, Title 1 school in San Pablo, California; as an Executive Director for elementary schools in San Francisco, and as a literacy consultant in California and New York, and as first the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services in HUSD and then Superintendent. Dr. Wayne brings a student and school centered approach to district leadership, focused on deeper learning and creating relationship-centered schools.

Dr. Wayne earned an undergraduate degree in rhetoric and his doctorate in Educational Leadership from UC Berkeley.  He also served as a lecturer in the Leadership for Educational Equity Program at UC Berkeley. Dr. Wayne also earned a Masters of Arts in English Education and a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University.
